Chapter 6 : Connected Discourses on Defilements (Kilesasamyutta) {Samyutta-27}[]

322. The Eye (Cakkhu sans. Cakkshu)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the eye is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. 273 desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the ear ... for the nose ... for the tongue ... for the body ... for the mind is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases, his mind inclines to renunciation. A mind fortified by renunciation becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)." 274


323. Forms (Rupa)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for forms is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. desire(chand) & lust(raag) for sounds ... for odours . . . for tastes ... for tactile objects ... for mental phenomena(dhamma) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases, his mind inclines to renunciation. A mind fortified by renunciation becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


324. Consciousness (Vinnana sans. Vigyan)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for eye-consciousness ..(also for ears,nose,tongue,touch).. for mind-consciousness is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases ..(as in 322)... [his mind] becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


325. contact(phassa/sparsh) (Samphassa sans. Sansparsh)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for eye-contact(phassa/sparsh) ..(also for ears,nose,tongue,touch).. for mind-contact(phassa/sparsh) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases ..(as in 322).. [his mind] becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


326. sensation(vedana) (Samphassaja sans. Sansparshjya)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for sensation(vedana) born of eye-contact(of sense with object;phassa/sparsh) ..(also for ears,nose,tongue,touch).. for sensation(vedana) born of mind-contact(phassa/sparsh) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases . .(as in 322). . [his mind] becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


327. Perception (Sanna sans. Sangya)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for perception(sanna sans. sangya) of forms . .(also of sounds,smells, tastes,touch). . for perception of mental phenomena(dhamma) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases . .(as in 322). . [his mind] becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


328. Awareness (Sancetana)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for awareness regarding forms . .(also of sounds,smells, tastes,touch). . [234] ... for awareness regarding mental phenomena(dhamma) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases . . . [his mind] becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


329. craving(tanha sans. trishna) (Tanha sans. Trishna)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for craving(tanha sans. trishna) for forms . .(also of sounds,smells, tastes,touch). . for craving for mental phenomena(dhamma) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases ..(as in 322).. [his mind] becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


330. Elements (Dhatu)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the earth element(dhatu) ... desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the water element(dhatu) ... desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the heat element(dhatu) ... desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the air element(dhatu) ... desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the space element(dhatu) ... desire(chand) & lust(raag) for the consciousness(vinnana sans. vigyan) element(dhatu) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these six cases . .(as in 322). . [his mind] becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."


331. Aggregates (Khandha sans. Skandha)[]

"Bhikkhus(monks), desire(chand) & lust(raag) for form ... for sensation(vedana) ... for perception(sanna sans. sangya) ... for sankhara(compulsive-behavior-conditioning) ... for consciousness(vinnana sans. vigyan) is a corruption(upkilesa) of the mind. When a bhikkhu(monk) has abandoned the mental corruption(upkilesa) in these five cases, his mind inclines to renunciation. A mind fortified by renunciation becomes wieldy in regard to those dhammas(path,law) that are to be realized by divine-knowledge(abhinna)."
