312. The Eye (Cakkhu)[]

At Savatthi "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of the eye is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death. 272 The arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of the ear ... of the nose ... of the tongue ... of the body ... of the mind is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of the eye ..(as above).. the mind is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


313. Forms (Rupa)[]

At Savatthi. Lord Buddha: "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of forms ... of sounds ... of odours ... of tastes ... of tactile objects ... of mental phenomena(dhamma) is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of forms ..(as above).. of mental phenomena(dhamma) is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


314. Consciousness(Vinnana sans. Vigyan)[]

At Savatthi "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of eye-consciousness ..(also of ears,nose,tongue,body).. of mind-consciousness is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of eye-consciousness ..(as above).. of mind-consciousness is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


315. Contact (Samphassa sans. Sansparsh)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of eye-contact(phassa/sparsh) ..(also of ears,nose,tongue,body).. of mind-contact is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of eye-contact ..(as above).. of mind-contact is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


316. sensation (Samphassaja sans. Sansparshjya)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of sensation(vedana) born of eye-contact(phassa/sparsh) ..(also of ears,nose,tongue,body).. of sensation(vedana) born of mind-contact is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of sensation(vedana) born of eye-contact ..(as above).. of sensation(vedana) born of mind-contact is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


317. Perception (Sanna sans. Sangya)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of perception(sanna sans. sangya) of forms ..(also of sounds,smells,tastes,touch).. of perception of mental phenomena(dhamma) is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of perception of forms ..(as above).. of perception of mental phenomena(dhamma) is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


318. Awareness (Sancetana)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of awareness regarding forms ..(also sounds,smells,tastes,touch).. of awareness regarding mental phenomena(dhamma) is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of awareness regarding forms ..(as above).. of awareness regarding mental phenomena(dhamma) is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


319. Craving (Tanha sans. Trishna)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of craving(tanha sans. trishna) for forms ..(also sounds,smells,tastes,touch).. of craving for mental phenomena(dhamma) is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of craving(tanha sans. trishna) for forms ..(as above).. of craving for mental phenomena(dhamma) is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


320. Elements (Dhatu)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of the earth element(dhatu) ... of the water element . . . of the heat element ... of the air element ... of the space element ...of the consciousness(vinnana sans. vigyan) element is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of the earth element..(as above).. of the consciousness element is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."


321. Aggregates (Khandha sans. Skandha)[]

At Savatthi. "Bhikkhus(monks), the arising, continuation, production, and manifestation of form ... of sensation(vedana) ... of perception(sanna sans. sangya) ... of sankhara(compulsive-behavior-conditioning) ... of consciousness(vinnana sans. vigyan) is the arising of suffering, the continuation of disease, the manifestation of aging-and-death.

"The cessation(nirodha), subsiding, and passing away of form ..(as above).. of consciousness is the cessation of suffering, the subsiding of disease, the passing away of aging-and-death."
